Internet Banking Passwords

An annoying change happened to browsers last year, and we seeing it regularly on some customers' computers still. This email alert is for you to check if you have this issue. The issue is your computer REMEMBERING your BANKING PASSWORD. It is dangerous for your computer to remember the password for a couple of reasons...

If you get hacked by someone they can easily go into your browser and view the username & password. If you get a virus that "sniffs" out passwords, it can also easily extract your password and send it to the owner of the virus.

Both scenarios give them full access to your bank account. Clearly this is bad.

Previously browsers offered to save passwords for websites but NOT banking sites. For some reason this was changed.

For many people when they go into their online banking, the password is saved already, and they get straight in. This is convenient but dangerous. It's safer to enter your online banking password every time.

If you already have saved the password, you might be wondering how to remove it from your computer? Good question!

Every browser has a slightly different way to do it. Below is a list of the main browsers and the method to remove the internet banking password.

Once you have completed this, log in to the bank and when it offers to save your password choose NO and NEVER ASK AGAIN (or similar wording). Then the problem won't come back.

NOTE: Make sure you know your banking password before proceeding!

Instructions below…

Google Chrome (Windows)

1. On your computer open the Chrome menu (in newer versions this will appear as three dashed dots in the upper right corner
2. Select Settings
3. Click Autofill
4. Click Passwords
5. Find your banking website, click the three dots next to it and click Remove

Microsoft Edge

1. Open the More actions menu (this will appear as three dotted lines in the upper right corner)
2. Select Settings
3. Click Passwords & Autofill
4. Click on the Manage Passwords
5. Click the X for your bank website.

Firefox (Windows)

1. Click the three dashed lines in the upper right corner
2. Click Logins and Passwords
3. Find your banking website in this list.
4. Select it and click Remove

Firefox (Apple Mac)

1. Click the three dashed lines in the upper right corner
2. Click Logins and Passwords
3. Find your banking website in this list.
4. Select it and click Remove

If you cannot find these options you may have an older version. Click on Firefox – Preferences – Security Tab.

Safari (Apple Mac)

1. In the menu bar, open the Safari menu and select Preferences
2. Click on Passwords
3. Highlight your bank’s website and click Remove.
