Why I Couldn’t Shutdown My Laptop?

Why I Couldn’t Shutdown My Laptop?

No, it wasn’t cruel and obsessive addiction with Facebook or Instagram. Neither was it a case of being able to stop watching YouTube videos. I couldn’t actually shutdown it down! To be precise whenever I would click shutdown on the laptop it would go through the shutdown process and then start up again. The same thing happened when I tried to hibernate too!

I first noticed when I hibernated my laptop when I was about to pop out the door. When I got to my destination I noticed the laptop in the bag was very hot, and I soon figured out why – it was still on!

Google offered me a variety of possible solutions for my computing issues. It seemed to be a result of the Windows 10 Creator Update. I could shutdown using a command line (shutdown -s -t 00) Most of these solutions are quite technical so if you’re not that way inclined it might be time to go to YouTube. First there is the Intel Management Engine Interface device which I turned off the power management settings.  No help.

Second, was Magic Packets, which is a groovy feature on many computers but can cause this issue. But not with my laptop.

Third, and finally, and successfully. I reset the BIOS on the laptop to default settings! As simple as that! I can now shutdown and restart my computer all I like.
