Macbook Keyboard Issues

Macbook Keyboard Issues

"This keyboard has to be one of the biggest design screw ups in Apple history. Everyone who buys a MacBook depends upon the keyboard and this keyboard is undependable." - Jon Gruber, Tech Guru

A quick recap. Apple introduced the butterfly keyboard design for MacBooks around three years ago. This has made for thinner and lighter keyboards - meaning your laptop is lighter too. But the design of the keyboard means that small particles of dust can interfere with individual keys, creating false key presses or unresponsive keys.

Apple has said it will be prioritising repairs to MacBook butterfly keyboards by repairing them at Genius Bars (good luck if you live in New Zealand, there aren't any! Oh wait, we DO live in New Zealand) rather than have them shipped to a central repair centre which would add about 5 days to the job.

Apple has refused to acknowledge the problem for a long time but finally released a statement "We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of MacBook notebook customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard."

If you are having trouble with your keyboard acting up you might need some help. Feel free to call for some advice on whether we can fix it or whether you need to take the long slow road with Apple.
