There is a new nasty malware that attacks both Windows computers and Apple computers. This malware can…
- Collect personal information
- Redirect you to other websites
- Lock you out of your files with a cryptolocker virus
The malware, known as ChromeLoader, initially started through Twitter and illegal game downloads but has spread to infect users throughout the world. Once executed on the victim’s machine, the malware uses some cunning tricks to ensure that if the virus is deleted, it can reload itself.
Just recently a new “feature” was added where a “zip bomb” can be downloaded to your system. If you double-click on these “zip bombs” the computer system is completely overloaded and in some cases the operating system can be destroyed.
What to do?
- Avoid downloading illegal software as there is significant risk of infection doing this
- Check you have an “ad blocker” on your browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox etc) that will stop ads loading as this malware can infect your system through the ad.
- Make sure you update your operating system with the latest updates
- Update your antivirus and run a full scan. (We’d recommend using either Microsoft Defender or Malwarebytes)
If you need help with any of these things. Feel free to either drop off your computer or call to get one of our technicians out to you. Normal service terms apply.
Computer threats including malware, viruses, and other security troubles are constantly evolving and getting more dangerous and more difficult to detect. It's important that you regularly update your backup. No one is absolutely protected, it's just not possible, therefore you are at risk of an attack by the latest editions of malware and security threats.
The jargon “malware” comes from the two words: malicious and software. Malware is one of the biggest computer threats around on the internet today. It can be used to gain access to your computer or laptop etc. Hackers can use that access to steal data, lock your files for a ransom or just about anything really.
Malware is often spread via outdated software whose flaws have been discovered, peer to peer file sharing, infected websites, or email attachments.
