Thirty One Laptops Given to Local Charities
We've always been passionate about giving back to our community at Computer Help NZ - historically it's been through charity donations, sponsoring local sports teams, or sending computers overseas to places like Zimbabwe or Vanuatu. Our Trade-in for Charity project turns your old laptops into real opportunities for those who need them most.
Today, we're pleased to announce that we've now refurbished, wiped, upgraded, reinstalled, and fully set up thirty one laptops — each one ready to make a genuine difference. Along with every laptop, we've also included a sturdy bag to keep everything protected and portable for the community groups receiving them.
What Goes Into Each Laptop?
Every machine in the project gets the full service treatment:
- Secure data wipe (your privacy is important to us)
- New Windows installation
- Useful application and utilities installed
- Our complete testing and burning to make sure it's running smoothly
- Basic repairs covered by us where needed such as upgrading to an SSD or adding RAM.
These aren't just handed out randomly - we carefully match them to local charities who are doing vital work but often struggle with funding.
Who We're Helping
We're proud to support groups like:
- Cholmondeley Children’s Foundation — providing essential care for tamariki and their whānau
- Dress for Success Christchurch — helping women rebuild confidence and careers
- Ōtautahi Creative Spaces — a free mental health art group for those who need it most
- RISE Ministry’s Trust — running holiday camps for kids from struggling homes
And other smaller community groups working with at-risk children, mental health, rehabilitation, suicide prevention, and isolated older folk.
How You Can Help
Got an old laptop lying around? Trade it in when you buy a new computer from us and you'll get a $150, $250 or $350 discount (depending on it's condition and age), while knowing your old machine will be put to excellent use instead of gathering dust or adding to e-waste.
Even if it's not working perfectly, we'll do any repairs ourselves before donating it. And any laptops we can't use go to environmentally-friendly recycling.
If you'd like to nominate a local charity or community group who could benefit from a refurbished laptop, just email us with a few details about the need and how it would help. We'll review every application carefully (availability and suitability depending, of course).
A huge thank you to everyone who's already traded in or donated a laptop. You've helped us get this milestone of 31 fully refurbed computers. Every single one represents another life changed and helped in our community.
