How Computer Help NZ is Repairing Laptops and the Planet

At Computer Help NZ, we’re not just wizards at laptop repairs and computer troubleshooting—we’re on a mission to make your technology greener, cleaner, and a whole lot leaner for the planet.

Sustainability isn’t a buzzword for us—it’s a commitment. Project #4 of our bold 31-project roadmap is all about waste separation, and it’s already up and humming! While we're known for top-tier computer repair services in Christchurch, we're also sorting more than just your tech issues.

Rubbish Revolution

We’ve gone full eco-mode in our workshop. Sure, everyone separates rubbish and recycling—but we’re diving deeper. We're now actively sorting:

  • General waste
  • Recycling
  • Green waste
  • Soft plastics. You’re local supermarket amongst other places will accept this.
  • And even... polystyrene!

Polystyrene, the annoying stuff that never breaks down? Which sadly we get a lot of in various packaging. We really want to keep this out of landfills. We’re serious we are about sustainable repairs for computers and laptops and for supplying new devices which tend to come with a lot of unnecessary packaging..

Repair, Don’t Replace

Our philosophy? If it can be repaired, it should be repaired. Every laptop we fix is one less tossed into a landfill. Every computer upgraded is another saved from the scrap heap. We think a future of smarter, longer-living tech is possible—so we're doing our part to get there.

And we don’t just preach it—we live it. We reuse parts where safe, recycle the rest properly, and even donate refurbished laptops to good causes as part of our Community Help Project.

Turning Trash into Treasure (Literally)

Instead of rushing out to buy shiny new bins—which would just use up more resources—we’ve taken the low-tech but high-impact route. We’re repurposing old lawnmower catchers as waste bins! That’s right—what once held grass clippings is now proudly sorting soft plastics and polystyrene in our workshop. It’s creative, it’s cost-effective, and it saves perfectly usable plastic from ending up in the landfill. Sustainability doesn’t always mean high-tech—it just takes a little thinking outside the bin, I mean box 😉 .

Project 4 of 31

Our goal is bold: cut our carbon footprint in half over the next 10 years. That’s why we’ve mapped out 31 specific, measurable initiatives. From switching to LED lighting to replacing aerosol duster cans with electric air pumps, and yes—even dealing with the tricky world of soft plastics—every bit counts.

You’ll hear more about the remaining  27 projects soon, but for now we’re pretty pumped about how laptop and computer repair shop can lead the charge on sustainability.
