Otautahi CS laptop

Computer Help NZ Supports ŌCS with Laptop Donations

At Computer Help NZ, we’re passionate about giving back to the community and supporting organizations that make a real difference. As part of our Community Help Project, we’re thrilled to share that we recently donated two refurbished laptops to the incredible team at Ōtaŭtahi Creative Spaces.

This organization does amazing work by creating inclusive, supportive environments where artists can thrive. From digital art to research that enriches artistic practices, their studios are hubs of creativity and innovation. We’re honoured to contribute to their mission by providing technology that empowers artists and enhances their experiences. Some laptops were desperately need for use by the artists and OCS had no access to further funding or means to get the computers that required.

A Warm Thank You from Ōtaŭtahi Creative Spaces

The heartfelt response from Ōtaŭtahi Creative Spaces means the world to us. They shared:

"We are so grateful to have incredible local businesses getting behind what we do. Today, Matthew from Computer Help NZ called in to donate two newly refurbished laptops for our studios and artists. @computerhelpnz are running a 'Community Help Project' where folks can trade in preloved computers that Computer Help NZ will refurbish and then donate to charities, giving them new life. We feel lucky to be the recipients of two laptops! What this means for us is these will be laptops that artists can use while in the studios; anything from digital art to research that contributes towards developing an art practice. Thanks so much, Matthew and the team!"

It’s moments like these that reinforce why we started the Community Help Project — to make a tangible impact by turning pre-loved technology into tools for creativity, education, and connection.

How the Community Help Project Works

The Community Help Project is simple yet impactful. Here’s how it works:

  1. Trade-In Preloved Devices: Members of the community bring us their old laptops, either donating them or as a trade-in on a new laptop bundle.

  2. Refurbishment Process: We upgrade, clean, and thoroughly test each device, ensuring it’s in top condition. Whatever laptops cannot be used are parted to be added to other laptops and then recycled.

  3. Donation to Charities: Refurbished laptops are donated to deserving organizations, giving the technology a new lease on life.

This initiative not only supports charitable groups but also helps reduce electronic waste, making it a win for the community and the environment.

A Call for Laptop Bags

In addition to devices, we’re now looking for used laptop bags to accompany our donations. Many organizations and individuals could benefit from the added convenience and protection a laptop bag provides. If you have any preloved laptop bags, consider donating them to support this cause.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received so far and excited to continue expanding the Community Help Project. If you have an old laptop or a laptop bag to spare,or need a new laptop please don’t hesitate to reach out. Every contribution helps us support more organizations like Ōtaŭtahi Creative Spaces and others doing vital work in our community. Of course, our primary business is repairs - computers, desktops, laptops, all-in-ones, you name it, we repair it. This can be done either at our workshop at 160b Selwyn Street or you can get a visit from one of our friendly technicians.

Visit our Community Help Project page for more information on how you can get involved. Together, we can turn unused tech into tools for positive change!
